Shelly Hsiao-Ying Cheng is Senior Scientist at Allozymes, where she focuses on protein engineering and synthetic biology to develop high-performance enzymes for industrial and biotechnological applications.

A bioengineering PhD with over 10 years of industry experience, Shelly specialises in genetic and protein engineering, with a strong track record of translating early-stage research into commercially relevant solutions. Her work spans enzyme and strain engineering, as well as spatial transcriptomics platform development, reflecting a versatile approach across emerging biotechnology domains.

Prior to joining Allozymes, Shelly held roles at Mascoma LLC and Veranome Biosystems (Applied Materials), where she engineered prototype strains and enzymes for commercial applications and contributed to the development of next-generation spatial transcriptomics technologies.

Shelly holds a PhD in Bioengineering from Rice University and a BS from National Taiwan University.
